Good Morning/Night Vietnam

Picture Capture Moment

Who will look at it? What is the purpose? Where will it be stored? Why did you have to picture capture this moment?

When the sunrise rose over the The Đồng Nai River I'd been looking out at this view on and off for 12-hours. Clouds, lighting, and weather had all flowed in, through, out, and beyond this communist man made hydro electric marvel.

The last bit of creeping jungle on the top left. The coffee trees on the hills bellow. Fish farms in the hydro electric dam lake who's lights only shown at night, and of course the islands. Hills that had once been connected to a valley, now cut off by the rising water of the dam.

What was on those islands. Who lived there.

Who, what, where, when, why?

Countless marvels. Innumerable adventures. This single picture. This one moment. The only picture from the trip taken by our protagonist.

What do you expect to learn from it; from taking a picture of it all?

Into the Wild

Lighting. Focus. You.

Low tide, close to the shore; but alone. An hours long casual snorkel along an unfamiliar reef. The yellow shrimp goby, with two pistol shrimp. First time I'd seen both a yellow shrimp goby, it living with two pistol shrimp, and the shrimp fussily borrowing in the middle of the day.

A sea of sea urchins. Like bees in a blooming garden; innocuously sharp.

Low tide, close to the shore. Sometimes being a hands length from everything on the reef is more terrifying than swimming the meters length of a swimming pool down to see it. A current, a wave, your breath pushing you uncontrollably near in-on-to one of the countless living things on the reef.

Gravity

The world from city ground level. The same world as you travel up the city mountains.

Gulf of Malaysia

The last one, on the last run. Down at some depth deeper than 5 meters in the pea soup. Biggest fish I'd finally seen.

I've been spoiled. I've seen the best. I've. I've. Me. See. Me. Seafood for dinner. This place isn't easy to see. Me. Dinner of Seafood. Ocean plastic. Oh such a shame. See me by the sea? Vacation me by the sea. Seafood dinner from that discount cheap reef by that ugly cheap sea.

This isn't world heritage. This wasn't in National Geographic. Oh this bag? It's a Vuitton. Oh this watch? It's a Rolex. No I'd never take these thing by the sea; there too expensive.

First free dive down. Into that green sea. Cuttlefish. Octopus. Purple Clown fish. Only these eyes did see in this cheap worthless sea.

Bone-with

Thai basil chicken. Spicy thai basil chicken. Spicy thai basil minced bone chicken? I always forget about the bones. Be it Thailand or the Philippines; I always forget about the bones. Tiny smashed fragments of bone, mixed irreversibly into the entire dish.

Magic Hill Resort

What does a decade do to a building in the Tropics?

The best abandoned places are hard to reach; isolated from most vandalism. With time water, wind, and the sun devour the place. Humans inevitably speed up the process of decay.

Archology. Modern archology. The search for envelopes at the check-in desk that gave me the name of this place. The floppy disk scattered across the floor. The same graffiti sprayed across the worlds abandoned buildings. The windows broken by the wind. Moldy, musty, plant filled carpet. Holes in the ceiling. Fish, each time fish in swimming pools far from any other source of water.

The best abandoned places are hard to reach; isolated from most people. With time water, wind, and the sun devour the place. Storms inevitably speed up the process of decay.

What s a decade in the Tropics does to a building.

Mid Way Through

Open that book of you. There is still some blank pages left. How many? Well more, some, less, one, or many. Just depends on when you happen to open the thing.

Open that book of you; on that day you happen to open the thing. How many, left? Its a rhetorically inaccurate question.

A kilo, a milli, a centi, a gram. Each carry weight.

Open that book of you. There is still some blank pages left. How many? Well more, some, less, one, or many. Just depends on when you happen to open the thing.
